Behind every great school is a caring principal. A principal who not only supports the school’s success, but also fosters good character, builds relationships, encourages collaboration, and instills a love of learning. Recognizing the outstanding work and example Dr. Kandy Worley sets for others, the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MoASSP) selected her as the 2019 Middle School Principal of the Year.

The award was presented to Dr. Worley by
MoASSP Executive Director Clark Mershon during a surprise all-school assembly. “Dr. Worley represents the highest ideals of school leadership,” said Mershon. “The Selection Committee noted many things in her application. She worked tirelessly to ensure each person feels valued, as well as she is constantly reflecting on how things can be better. She promotes self-care and models the ability to build relationships.”

Congrats Dr. Worley SignThis award is a testament to Dr. Worley’s commitment and passion for building trusting relationships with students and staff. This work has contributed to the continued improvement of Saeger’s MAP scores over the past three years. Dr. Worley has worked to improve student success and improve the learning environment as well. She has created a culture where kids are loved, are comfortable, and feel safe.

“I’ve been lucky to work in the Francis Howell School District as a student teacher, teacher, high school assistant principal, principal, and middle school principal, “said Dr. Worley. “There isn’t anything better than being honored for what you do every day for kids and being recognized by your peers.  This award feels like I’ve won the Super Bowl in education.”

Dr. Worley has been a member of the FHSD family for the past 24 years, working as a Spanish teacher, high school assistant principal, high school principal, and in her current role as Saeger’s principal. Dr. Worley earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Maryville University in 2009.

In addition to being selected as the 2019 MOASSP Middle School Principal of the year, Dr. Worley was also named the 2018 Middle School Principal of the Year by the St. Louis Association of Secondary School Principals.
